Project - Summer Room

Requirements

Brigid and Duncan have employed us over a period of 7 years working on their beautiful Grade B listed house, which was built in the 1810s, recently we were tasked to build a summer room which was to have specific features relative to the listed status of the house, we sourced the stone locally which was specially dressed to match the existing Ashlar sandstone of the house, and the slated roof was to have conservation style Velux windows incorporated into the space which would enhance the vaulted ceiling within the room, the sash and case windows were manufactured locally along with the french doors, and they have worked perfectly with the design of the sandstone, Ayrshire has many great local companies which can be utilised for ideas and products, we think the end product endorses this.

Testimonial

We have a 200 year-old house which is listed and which we bought seven years ago in a state of disrepair. Martin Sneddon has been involved in several of the projects which we have undertaken to renovate the house. These have included replacing lintels above windows, designing and building replacement front and backdoor stone steps, internal room layout conversion and building a new garden room extension.

Martin's attention to detail and his ability to plan ahead are first class. Although the majority of his projects involve more modern buildings, his interest in and understanding of old buildings has been a real bonus to us and he has gone to great lengths to source the best, most sympathetic materials to match in with the original features of our house. Martin takes great pride in his work; he believes that if a job is worth doing then it's worth doing properly! He has made a point of keeping us informed of progress all through each process, which is very reassuring. His team, including his son, Young Martin, are all very pleasant and hard working, and they are all in the habit of keeping the site tidy.

Our garden room was completed a year ago and we are so pleased with it. Martin was able to source the stone to match the original stone of the house and also advise on the design, ensuring that the new "extension" tied in with the original, old building. It has been much admired.

In short, we feel extremely fortunate to have had Martin on our side as we've restored our house - we have felt in safe hands with him and his team. We have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone looking for an experienced, reliable and trustworthy builder.
